About me: If you were to ask me to write a story, I wouldn’t know where to begin. I can regurgitate stories that I’ve heard before, but that isn’t the same as creating an original myth with believable, fleshed-out characters by drawing upon prior experiences, passions and varied conversations.
If you were to ask me to talk about myself, I would have much difficulty saying much at all, despite having apparently been alive on this earth for 27 years, and despite having normal cognitive abilities. When faced with this ostensibly simple request for information, a type of short-circuiting occurs which prevents me from accessing the required answer.
I suspect these two things are related.
I’m a copycat of sorts. When I hear an impressionable laugh, I add it to my mental database of happy sounds, and it won’t be long until my own laugh is updated to include elements of it. I can’t help it. A process which initially required deliberate effort - since childhood I was in the habit of silently watching people interact with each other, so fastidiously you’d think I was mute if you had stopped by to witness the scene - has now become automatic. A similar thing happens with people’s accents, or their involuntary body movements and facial expressions.
I accumulate human tendencies. Why? Humans have always been fascinating to me. Yet often I am on the outside looking in, constantly playing catch-up to convince them that I am one of their own, diligently exerting mental effort to put myself in their shoes and imagine what it’s like to be them. Whenever I get a moment, I methodically replay conversations that I had been part of, (directly or indirectly), in order to excavate clues of their existence.
Of course, I take advantage of books that detail the theory of the complex wonder that is human connection. Useful as they are, they leave me wanting for a tangible experience. This is why I have gotten into the hobby of collecting people’s things.
I want to consume your memories, and inhale fragments of your life, so I can be a fuller being. I want to absorb your emotions so I can feel like you, feel more human. I want to experience feelings that I was hitherto not privy to. Your belongings will trigger parts of my mind that previously lay dormant. With each used object I acquire, I increase my powers of imagination and empathy. With each new memory I add of yours, the better I can relate to humans and take part in their joy and sadness, bliss and despair.
In order to truly know humans, I must immerse myself in their world. I must surround myself with the thoughts and belongings to which their residue clings to. I dream of one day building a room that is wholly made up of other people’s stuff, much like the way people thrift outfits, or recycle old shoes and turn them into park benches. I will have a living, breathing museum of homo sapiens junk.
To this end, I’d like you to send me your used things.

Anything, so I can lie down and stare at them and feel them and daydream about how they were used or what they meant to you once upon a time.
Ship them to me. I’ll weigh it, appraise its value, and in return you’ll receive sweets from England.
It’s hard to ask for something you know nothing of, so please don’t make any assumptions about what I would or would not find desirable. There are no limits. If you thought about it, I want it.
I’m sure I’m missing countless things on this list. As you have probably gleaned, I don’t live like the humans. People’s rooms are an unspeakable mystery to me. So, I couldn’t imagine the treasures you have lurking in each corner of your dwelling place. What manner of textures, smells, colors…
